On my weekly search around the internet this week to find fun and exciting content for you to enjoy with your kids, I came across the following youtube video of the popular English nursery rhyme Old Macdonald had a farm translated into Yoruba! Click read more to watch
As many parents know these type of stunning and colourful animated nursery rhymes youtube videos really grab the attention of our young children so I was really happy to see that something was being done in Yoruba. I also wanted to find out more about the people behind the Youtube channel, Culture Tree TV, and what their plans were for the future.
The founder of Culture Tree TV is called Gbemisola Isimi who said she was inspired to start the channel after noticing that the only way she could get some alone time from her young daughter was if she gave her their iPad and let her watch Youtube. She noticed one day that the then 1 year was watching random Hindi nursery rhyme videos and loved it. After searching online for Yoruba or specifically Nigerian ones but couldn’t find any, this was when she spotted a gap in the market for our own indigenous programmes and educational materials.
She says he plan is to not just do popular English nursery rhymes translations but to also do some of the evergreen nursery rhymes most Nigerians who grew up in Nigeria sang along to as a child in Nigeria, stories, lullabies and other educational materials.
We wish her all the best and look forward to enjoying more videos from Culture Tree TV.
